No Girls Scout Cookies for you!

even though, i was raised in a witness home, i never remember hearing that girl scout cookies were a no-no.

and even though i've only been baptized for a few years, i don't remember any specific admonishment of these sweet treats.

but recently at work a jdub coworker made it a point to remind me that jw's do not buy or eat girl scout cookies.

I had a girl that rode my Bus recently at a local grocery store yell out load ;"Hey Mr Jack, do you want to buy some GS cookies?". I said "NO" out loud. I felt bad about how I responded to this little girl, 5 minutes later I went to the GS table, apologized, and took out a $10 bill and gave it to the girl and said:"Give the cookies to someone in need". She smiled and gave me a hug.

HTTPS (SSL security) Now Available

i've setup an ssl certificate so you can now use https to browse the site.

this creates an encrypted connection between your browser and the server which is more secure and prevents urls visited from being shown in router logs, content can't be eavesdropped etc.... there are also some performance benefits but they won't kick in until i make some more changes.. consider it experimental for now but at some point it will likely automatically redirect you to the secure version of a page.. you can try it by adding 's' to the http part of any address or just goto the home page and browse from there (some mixed content means you may not get the fully green https status in your browser just yet though).. let me know if you have any issues using the site..

i'm wondering at how far the borg could go in begging for money?

their halls are already resembling the"money changers in the temple".

as they get sued more and more due to their pedophilic paradise their coffers will be ever more drained.

You would loose 3/4 of the Congregation, at least in our case! We only have 5 out of 70 main contributors( I know because I'm the Accounts Servant).

An Elder asked me recently; "Why do You think our Accounts have run out of money?". I said: "Only 2 Elders out of 7 contribute each month and in the past 2 years, only 1 of our MS out of 6 has. We rarely get Cash, we don't accept Cards, so I base my answer on the Checks we receive".

Our last 2 Local Needs talks have been about donating, those that contribute, just donated more.

i ran into my old bible study at the kingdom hall recently, he was baptized as a jw 8 years ago.

we started talking about small things and catching up about our families and then the bombshell.. "my wife and i are deeply troubled by the watchtower change of doctrine, prophecy, and their history"!

"did you know about charles russell and his failed marriage... his view of pyramids... generation mistakes... and dates... that place in california for returning prophets..."and on and on he went.. i told him i knew all about it and then show him a publication on display in the foyer (i think it is divine plan of the ages), and it had a fold out of a pyramid and a description on bible verses that showed 1914 was the year the big a was going to happen.

I guess you just don't it! 35 years of Conditioning is a strong pull.

As for myself, I need a Moral Compass. I'm afraid without it, I would become a terrible mess like I was before I became a Witness. I have read many experiences on this Board where individuals where after exiting JW's, returned(Farkel for one), returned to a life of Fornication and drug abuse. That would be me. Also remember, I was truly indoctrinated, with many "Privileges" with this Organization.

But who knows, I often dream of just walking away from it all. If my wife got to this point, it would be easier.

He wanted to meet with 2 Elders to discussed his situation, I told him I know these guys, it will not go well with you.

I said, " you got 7 children at home, they need some Spiritual guidance at this point in their life. Nobody has the complete truth that I am aware of. You and I have too much invested with this Organization, also family to throw it all away. But we are empowered with information to make sound decisions. Just lay low, enjoy life, we have each other, our families! You can call me anytime to talk."

This is all that has happened at this time. We haven't talk since then.

Question: HQ sold for $700 million, will this be announce on the JW site?

but, here is my question....do you think they will announce on the site that they sold the brooklyn building for $700 million?

The real reason so many witnesses end up here....

why do so many witnesses end up coming to forums like this?.

no doubt it is because of the fact that the society disallows any form of sincere questioning of teachings or doctrines or history etc.... if there was open discussion allowed - free of repercussions and punishment, then no one would feel stifled.

if genuine concerns could be raised, then no one would feel smothered or unable to share thoughts... then in turn many would not leave.... but due to the high control, authoritarian culture the society has created, many feel trapped, and end up searching outside of official channels...and leaving the society.....
